A Korean woman parole arrest was carried out when Jeong Choi (53), convicted in the 2017 killing of her loverโs wife in Central California, was detained by federal immigration authorities just one day after her parole release.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on August 25 that Choi, a Korean national, was arrested on August 23 as part of a broader enforcement operation targeting undocumented immigrants.
Choi had been convicted alongside her lover, Sangrim Ji, for murdering Jiโs wife, Yoonhee Shin, at the coupleโs home in Hollister, San Benito County, in 2017. The two abandoned Shinโs body in a nearby valley. Choi was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
On August 22, Choi was released on parole. Within 24 hours, she was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is expected to be deported to Korea.
In its statement, DHS emphasized its stance: โWe will never allow an undocumented immigrant who committed murder to remain in the United States.โ
