The JoongAng Student Reporter (JSR) program is officially inviting middle and high school students to apply for its Fall 2026 term. This prestigious journalism initiative, which began in 2009, offers students a unique platform to enhance their critical thinking and professional writing skills while reporting on issues within their schools and local communities.
The upcoming term will run for six months, from July to December 2026, marking the 36th cohort for high school participants and the 18th cohort for middle school participants.
Professional Journalism Training and Global Exposure
Managed by the JoongAng Education Research Institute, the program provides direct mentorship from journalism experts. Articles submitted by student reporters undergo a rigorous review process, and selected pieces are published in the JoongAng Daily’s print edition, its digital education portal, and its English-language news website.
For international students and those aiming for higher education in the United States, JSR serves as a significant extracurricular activity. It allows students to demonstrate leadership, community engagement, and advanced communication skills—qualities highly valued by university admissions boards.
Global Participation via Online Platform
The JSR program is conducted entirely online, making it accessible to students not only across the United States but also in Korea, China, and other international locations. This global environment encourages diverse perspectives and fosters a broader understanding of international issues among participants.

Participation Fees

High School(9-12th): $400 for new members / $300 for returning members

Middle School(7-8th): $250 for new members / $200 for returning members

Discount: A $50 discount is applicable for children of JoongAng Daily subscribers.
