BTS Takes Over Mexico: A Royal Welcome at the National Palace
The “Arirang” World Tour has officially reached fever pitch. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Wednesday that the K-pop global icons, BTS, will make a historic visit to the National Palace in Mexico City. In a move rarely seen for international artists, the band is expected to greet their massive fanbase directly from the palace balcony, a gesture Sheinbaum described as being “for the youth.”
Beyond Music: A Message of Peace and Love
“They convey messages of friendship, of peace, and of love,” President Sheinbaum noted during her morning conference, praising the “humanistic” nature of BTS’s music. This visit underscores the deep cultural ties between South Korea and Mexico, which has grown into the world’s fifth-largest K-pop market. The demand is so high that all 136,000 tickets for the three-night run at Estadio GNP Seguros sold out instantly, marking a triumphant return for the group following their mandatory military service.
The $107.5 Million Phenomenon
The “BTS effect” is being felt directly in the Mexican economy. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimates that the three-day concert series will generate approximately $107.5 million in economic impact. From hotel bookings to local tourism, the city is bracing for a surge of international and domestic travelers. With BTS tracks like “Dynamite” still dominating Mexican streaming charts, the 2026 “Arirang” tour is proving to be the most significant musical event in the country’s recent history.
