Valley Christian student Mason Jang took first place, and winning works from each grade will be displayed at City Hall.
A Korean American elementary school student won first place in a student art competition hosted by the city of Bellflower.
Mason Yeonho Jang, 9, a third-grade student at Valley Christian Elementary School, took first place in the third-grade division at the Bellflower City Student Art Competition, held May 2 at the Simms Park Auditorium.

The competition was organized by the city of Bellflower to discover young artists with creativity and artistic expression among local students. It was open to students in grades 3 through 6 for the 2025-26 school year.
Eligible participants included students attending schools in Bellflower or schools that serve Bellflower residents.
The theme for the third-grade division was “Under Water Adventure.” Students in the third and fourth grades were given 45 minutes to complete their artwork. Participants created their pieces from scratch on-site within the allotted time on the day of the competition.
Jang completed his artwork within the time limit in response to the theme and received high marks from the judges.
His piece earned the highest score in the third-grade division for creativity, execution, clarity and overall composition. First-place winners in each grade received a trophy.
The first-place winning works from each grade will be on display at Bellflower City Hall through May 26.
