Major Felony Charges Filed Following Walker County Investigation

Authorities in Walker County, Alabama, have announced the arrest of Hyeonsoo Ko, a 24-year-old South Korean national, following a specialized investigation into crimes against children. The arrest was made public on May 8, 2026, by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.

The Investigation: Travel and Online Solicitation

According to investigators, Ko allegedly traveled to Walker County on at least three separate occasions to meet with minors. The Sheriff’s Office believes the encounters were initiated through online communication before transitioning into physical meetings.

Ko is currently facing a long list of serious felony charges, including:

  • Three counts of travel to meet a child for a sex crime.

  • One count of enticing a child.

  • Two counts of 2nd-degree rape.

  • Two counts of 2nd-degree sexual abuse.

Sheriff’s Warning to Parents

Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith used the case as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in the digital space. “This case demonstrates how exposed children can be both online and in the real world,” Smith stated. “Offenders in these cases move across state lines and even international borders.”

The Sheriff urged parents to be hyper-vigilant regarding their children’s online interactions and to report any suspicious behavior or unfamiliar contacts to local law enforcement immediately.

Legal Status and Bond

Hyeonsoo Ko is currently being held at the Walker County Jail. His bond has been set at $250,000.

The investigation is ongoing, as authorities continue to look for additional victims and further evidence regarding the full scope of the suspect’s activities within the state.
