Oreo and BTS Unveil Limited-Edition Purple Hotteok Cookie

Purple Wafers and K-Street Food: Inside the Historic Oreo x BTS Drop

In a massive intersection of global pop culture and culinary heritage, snacking giant Mondelēz International has announced a limited-edition global collaboration with K-pop icons BTS. Starting next month, cookie aisles worldwide will turn distinctly purple with the launch of the “Oreo Brown Sugar Hotteok” cookie. This historic release marks a monumental milestone for both properties, rolling out simultaneously across more than 80 countries.

Breaking away from its century-old visual tradition, Oreo is debuting its first-ever custom purple cookie wafers. The unique hue serves as a direct, vibrant tribute to the signature color that defines BTS and its fiercely loyal global fanbase, known collectively as the ARMY.

A Taste of Childhood: Bringing Korean Heritage to the World

At the center of this collaborative treat is a specially formulated sweet inner creme engineered to capture the exact flavor profile of hotteok—a beloved, warm, brown-sugar-stuffed pancake that stands as a staple of South Korean street food market culture.

According to corporate insights, the seven band members personally guided the flavor development, selecting a sweet treat that holds deeply personal significance to them. The flavor reflects fond memories of their childhoods growing up in South Korea and late-night snack breaks during grueling studio recording sessions.

The custom touches extend deep into the product’s physical design, celebrating the group’s 13th anniversary since their debut:

  • 13 Original Sketches: The cookie wafers feature 13 distinct custom embossments personally sketched by the band members.

  • Fan-Centric Elements: The detailed imprints include the individual names of the members, the iconography of the official BTS light stick (Army Bomb), and intricate fan-message graphics.

  • Collectible Layouts: When arranged sequentially, multiple cookies combine to form a hidden visual message dedicated to consumers.

The limited-edition treats are scheduled to launch via online presales on June 1, with a broad brick-and-mortar retail rollout beginning June 8 while supplies last.
