According to CNN, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, the House Ethics Committee has launched an investigation involving Rep. Jimmy Gomez, who represents California’s 34th Congressional District, which includes much of Los Angeles. The inquiry reportedly centers on issues related to Gomez’s private life, while additional allegations are also being examined as part of the review.

Gomez addressed the controversy in a public statement released Tuesday. In the statement, he acknowledged engaging in an extramarital relationship several years ago during his marriage.
“I made a personal mistake that caused significant pain to my wife and family,” Gomez said.
Congressman Denies Violating Ethics Rules
While admitting to the affair, Gomez firmly denied any wrongdoing under federal law or House ethics regulations.
He stated that all relationships involved were consensual and maintained that he had never violated legal requirements or congressional ethical standards.
The congressman also issued an apology to his wife, family members, friends, and constituents, saying he deeply regrets the harm caused by his actions. Gomez added that he intends to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Allegations Stem From Earlier Reports
The controversy traces back to reports from 2023 alleging that Gomez was seen kissing a staff member from another congressional office during a social gathering in Washington, D.C.
At the time, Gomez’s office denied the allegations. However, his recent statement marks the first public acknowledgment of an extramarital relationship.
