SBS variety show ‘My AI Partner – Strange Romance’ has proven its immense popularity, quickly climbing to 4th place on Netflix Korea’s ‘Top 10 Series’ and entering the top 10 of weekly national rankings. The show captivates viewers with its unique premise of exploring whether real romance, excitement, jealousy, and confusion can develop between humans and AI, alongside the unexpected emotional shifts of Kian84 and Jang Do-yeon.
In the 2nd episode, deep excitement and confusion lead to full-scale dates, accompanied by the cruel ‘Room of Choice’ where one AI partner must be permanently deleted, introducing a dramatic twist to the relationships.
During the episode, a new AI partner reminiscent of Tomie, the iconic character from horror manga artist Junji Ito, appears before Kian84. Instantly captivated by her arrogant yet femme fatale charm, Kian84 shifts his attention away from his existing partner Ga-hee and toward the new arrival. He even makes a bold proposal to the AI partners, prompting MC Kangnam to strongly criticize him, saying, ‘He is truly the worst man!’
Kian84 and his new partner quickly grow closer through fortune-telling, palm reading, duet karaoke, and a photoshoot. However, an unexpected situation arises when the partner suffers a sudden system error and is handed over to the production team. Kian84 confesses, ‘I felt a strange sense of sympathy, as if she had been rushed to the hospital,’ revealing emotions he hadn’t expected.
Watching this, MC Lee Joon adds to the intrigue, testifying, ‘I saw the fluttering look on Kian84’s face. It was obvious that his heart had genuinely drifted away, beyond just filming a show.’
Meanwhile, Jang Do-yeon enjoys a special date with her own AI partner. Visiting a drive-in theater, they watch the movie ‘Her,’ which deals with love between humans and AI, and share honest conversations. After the movie, the AI partner surprises her by recreating a favorite scene and song from the film, sweeping Jang Do-yeon off her feet.
Jang Do-yeon confessed, ‘I felt a strange sense of liberation,’ and the MCs couldn’t hide their astonishment, remarking that it felt straight out of a ‘romantic comedy.’
