Walmart Dresser Recall Reissued After Dangerous Tip-Over Hazard Resold

The Resale Blunder: Why the Walmart Dresser Recall Just Got Reissued

If you recently bought an inexpensive fabric dresser for a bedroom or nursery, you need to check the label immediately. Federal safety regulators have stepped in after recalled furniture somehow slipped back into store inventory and liquidators. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reissued a major Walmart dresser recall affecting over 165,000 units of the retailer’s popular Mainstays 9-Drawer Fabric Dresser due to a severe tip-over hazard that poses serious injury or death risks to young children.

The Hazard: Severe Tip-Over and Entrapment Risks

The recalled units lack the necessary stability when unanchored to a wall. If a curious child attempts to climb or pull on the drawers, the entire unit can easily tip forward. While no injuries or accidents have been reported so far, the CPSC considers unanchored dressers of this profile an unacceptable safety risk for households with kids.

Product Identification & Where They Were Sold

The Walmart dresser recall covers the Mainstays 9-Drawer Fabric Storage Dresser sold between September 2023 and March 2024 online and nationwide for roughly $80.

  • Appearance: Black metal frame featuring brown or black fabric drawers.

  • Dimensions: Approximately 40 inches long, 13.75 inches wide, and 45 inches high.

  • Weight: Around 32 pounds.

The Major Catch: Despite an initial recall notice in May, roughly 250 units were mistakenly handed over to liquidation and salvage firms—including “OMG California Community” in Riverside—and resold to unsuspecting consumers across California, Michigan, Indiana, and Florida.

What You Should Do Immediately

If you own this dresser and it is not securely anchored to your wall, stop using it right away and move it to an area completely out of reach of children.

To claim a full refund, consumers do not need to haul the entire metal frame back to the store. Simply remove the fabric drawers and return them to any local Walmart customer service desk. The metal frame can be safely dismantled and disposed of according to your local recycling guidelines.
