Lee Chang-dong Venice Film Festival Return After 24 Years
Director Lee Chang-dong Venice Film Festival competition entry ‘Possible Love’ arrives as the 83rd edition kicks off on September 2, 2026, at the Venice Lido in Italy. Marking a historic 24-year return since his 2002 masterpiece ‘Oasis’ won the Silver Lion for Best Director and Best Actress (Moon So-ri), this also represents South Korea’s second consecutive year in the competition following Park Chan-wook’s entry last year.
Star-Studded Cast and Global Masterpieces Compete
As Lee’s seventh feature film and his very first Netflix original, ‘Possible Love’ is scheduled for its world premiere on the afternoon of September 6. The star-studded cast includes returning collaborators Sol Kyung-gu and Jeon Do-yeon, alongside Cho Yeo-jeong and Zo In-sung, who join the red carpet events. Major international outlets like Variety highlight that Lee’s film will compete alongside heavy-hitting masterworks such as Danny Boyle’s opening film ‘Ink,’ Werner Herzog’s ‘Bucking Fastard,’ Nanni Moretti’s ‘It Will Happen Tonight,’ and Martin McDonagh’s ‘Wild Horse Nine.’
