Singer and producer Park Jin-young, serving as the co-chair of the Pop Culture Exchange Commission at a ministerial level, recently received an unexpected ‘caution’ measure from South Korea’s National Assembly over his official public business trip to the United States. Critics claimed he blended personal business with his official itinerary, sparking a heated debate about administrative overreach.
Understanding the Bleisure Controversy
The National Assembly’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee issued the caution to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stating that private members must clearly distinguish between official and personal schedules during overseas trips. This came after Park completed a 5-day, 6-night official schedule meeting with Republic Records Chairman Monte Lipman in New York and Los Angeles last November, followed by an extended personal stay.
