(G)I-DLE Miyeon Faces Unexpected Medical Ad Controversy

(G)I-DLE Miyeon recently found her YouTube health checkup video at the center of an unexpected medical advertising controversy in South Korea, prompting a direct explanation and swift action from the production team. On September 1, the YouTube channel ‘Jeondosa’ released an episode titled ‘[SUB] (G)I-DLE Miyeon, Turning 30 First Health Checkup, Did I Talk Nonsense? | Jeondosa EP.0’. The video captured Miyeon undergoing her very first health checkup and sleep endoscopy since her debut. However, the content sparked controversy after a petition was filed through the official South Korean government portal on September 7, requesting a review of whether the video violated the Medical Service Act regarding illegal medical advertising.

Production Team Denies Sponsorship and Adds Mosaics

The core issue centered around scenes showing the administration of a sedative before the endoscopy, along with unedited identifiers revealing a specific medical institution, medical staff, and interior facilities in South Korea. In response to the backlash, the ‘Jeondosa’ production team released an official statement on September 8. They clarified that the health checkup episode was not produced for the purpose of promoting a specific medical institution. The creators emphasized that they received no advertisements, sponsorships, financial support, or economic compensation from the hospital, and noted that they personally covered all medical expenses for Miyeon’s procedure. Nevertheless, the production team acknowledged that identifying details were not sufficiently blurred in the initial release. Following a re-evaluation, additional mosaic and blur effects were applied to the video, which has already surpassed 1 million views. Additionally, the release schedule for the upcoming episode featuring TWICE’s Sana was adjusted by one day as part of subsequent adjustments.
