Operation Meridian Rescues 79 Children
In a historic law enforcement effort, missing children rescued across Ohio totaled 79 individuals ranging in ages from 6 to 17, according to recent reports from KTLA. The large-scale search, dubbed ‘Operation Meridian’ by the U.S. Marshals Service, targeted individuals who had been reported missing or were at high risk due to suspected human trafficking, physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and running away.
Details of the Multi-Agency Search
Conducted in August with the collaboration of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, the sweep spanned major areas including Akron, Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo, with some children even located in Georgia. Among those found were two sisters who had been missing for an extended periodโone reported in July 2024 and the other in April 2026. Authorities discovered the 13-year-old girl hiding in a concealed space beneath a bedroom closet floor in a Rootstown, Ohio home. Information gathered during the subsequent arrest of the children’s mother on an outstanding probation violation led officers to the 16-year-old sister, who was located at a Columbus restaurant on the same day.

Following their rescue, authorities provided the recovered children with comprehensive medical, psychological, and social welfare services, alongside family reunification support. U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott expressed gratitude to the law enforcement agencies and community partners dedicated to safeguarding vulnerable youth, emphasizing that every rescued child represents a precious life removed from danger.
