Late-Night Break-In Leads to Ceiling Hiding Spot
A restaurant burglar who unlawfully entered a New Westminster eatery in the early hours was caught hiding in a tight space above the kitchen following an extensive search involving police drones and a K9 unit, according to local authorities.
Police Deploy Drones and K9 Units
According to the New Westminster Police, officers responded to a citizen report of a potential break-in near 10th Street and Carnarvon Street at approximately 2:30 a.m. on September 5. Upon arrival, officers discovered a broken window and spotted a masked man inside the building, prompting them to secure the perimeter and call for backup.
After the suspect repeatedly ignored commands to exit the building, police deployed a drone and a police dog to systematically search the interior. During a secondary sweep, officers located the suspect hiding in a narrow cavity above the kitchen and successfully took him into custody.
Suspect Faces Charges
The arrested suspect was safely apprehended without injury and is currently facing charges of break-and-enter and attempted theft, awaiting a bail hearing.
