The Impact of YouTube Eating Show Regulations on South Korea Creators
As YouTube eating show regulations tighten significantly regarding eating disorders and binge-eating content, creators across South Korea are facing unprecedented disruptions. Major policy shifts have led to sudden demonetization and mass video deletions for channels specializing in extreme dieting and mukbang content.
For instance, South Korea creator ‘Salbaejo,’ who has around 440,000 subscribers, recently lost monetization due to stricter platform guidelines. To prevent further penalties, the channel temporarily halted new uploads entirely. Similarly, diet creator ‘Miso’ with 100,000 subscribers received violation notices and proactively deleted 339 out of 667 videos.
New YouTube Policies Target Binge Eating and Dangerous Diets
Under the updated guidelines, YouTube restricts ad revenue on content that models dangerous eating behaviors, such as binge eating, excessive food hoarding, and extreme calorie restriction. The platform evaluates not just creator intent, but the overall context of video descriptions, titles, thumbnails, and tags to protect viewers from imitation.
Amidst these strict YouTube eating show regulations, famous South Korea mukbang star Tzuyang recently commented, Overeating doesn’t seem to be the trend anymore. I will become a creator who eats moderately in the future. While Tzuyang continued her usual broadcasts shortly after, industry insiders view her remarks as a reflection of growing market sensitivity to platform changes.
Exemptions and Current Enforcement Status
Despite widespread panic, YouTube clarified that educational content, documentaries, and general meal or food introduction videos are not uniformly penalized. Currently, enforcement primarily targets channels focusing on extreme weight loss journeys. It remains unconfirmed whether massive mukbang creators like Tzuyang or Hibab have been directly targeted by the updated policies.
