A 70-year-old woman, presumed to be of Korean descent, was arrested by police after leaving her pet dog unattended inside a hot vehicle while feeding stray cats.
According to NorthEscambia, a local media outlet in Florida citing an arrest report from the Escamnia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO), Su Chong Han, 70, was arrested on the 18th on charges of animal abuse and trespassing, the 24th reported. While Han is presumed to be Korean, her nationality has not been officially confirmed.
The incident occurred in a vacant lot on North Palafox Street. Responding to a trespassing call, police discovered Han at the scene feeding stray cats.
Police investigation revealed that Han had already received an official warning in May not to enter the property.
While police were escorting Han to a patrol car, she mentioned that she had left her pet dog in her nearby parked car. Han stated that she had left the dog inside the vehicle with the engine turned off for approximately 30 minutes.
According to the arrest report, when police checked the vehicle, all windows were rolled up, and the dog in the passenger seat was panting heavily.
Escambia County Animal Welfare responded to the scene to take custody of the dog, and Han’s vehicle was towed.
Han was booked into the Escambia County Jail and released after posting a $1,000 bond.
