LA County gas prices have risen for 39 consecutive days, coming within striking distance of an all-time high.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA) and the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), the average price for regular gasoline in LA County on the 27th was recorded at $6.39 per gallon, up about 5 cents from the previous day. This marks the highest level in nearly four years, since October 10, 2022.
Gasoline prices have jumped for 39 days straight, surging by about 75 cents during this period. Compared to a year ago, it has become a staggering $1.66 more expensive.
The all-time high for LA County was recorded at $6.49 per gallon on October 5, 2022, which is a mere 10-cent difference from the current price.
Orange County’s average gasoline price hit $6.37 per gallon, marking the highest level since October 7, 2022. Its all-time high was $6.46 per gallon on October 5, 2022.
AAA analyzed that while there is typically a seasonal trend of gasoline prices declining with the onset of fall, this year’s pump prices are being driven higher by ongoing geopolitical instability surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and persistently high international crude oil prices.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at gasoline price tracking firm GasBuddy, stated that the current national average gasoline price is at its highest level ever recorded for this time of year. The national average gas price stood at $4.49.
