The World Korean Food Global Forum, designed to connect with the global Korean food network, will be held from October 29 to 31 at Donggang Cistar and various locations in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province.
Lim Jong-taek, President of the World Korean Food Federation, and Eom Gwang-yeol, Director of the Yeongwol Industry Promotion Agency, stated in an interview with our publication on the 29th that “this forum is an opportunity to connect Yeongwol’s food and local agricultural specialties with the overseas Korean food industry to expand export and distribution opportunities.”
This event is hosted by the World Korean Food Federation, organized by the Yeongwol Industry Promotion Agency, and sponsored by the ICTC Customs Association.
The forum will be attended by participants involved in the globalization of Korean food from 35 cities in 22 countries, including the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Japan, Argentina, and Chile.
They will directly see and taste Yeongwol’s food, agricultural specialties, and local products, and review the possibility of importing and distributing raw materials or finished products.
President Lim said, “It is important for overseas Korean food officials to directly experience Yeongwol’s products and take them back to their respective countries to promote them,” adding that “the goal is not just simple promotion, but connecting to actual imports and distribution.”
Director Eom said, “Yeongwol is a region with the history of King Danjong and the spirit of loyalty, along with excellent agricultural specialties produced in clean nature and unique food culture,” adding, “We want to promote Yeongwol’s history, culture, and regional value to the world through Korean food.”
The LA Korean restaurant industry will also participate in this forum. According to President Lim, 12 people, including Korean restaurant operators and officials from the World Korean Food Federation, are scheduled to visit Yeongwol from LA. Participating businesses include Suwon Galbi, Brothers Galbi, Jookhyang, and Ondal.
Director Eom stated, “Even after the forum, we will continue exchanges between Yeongwol companies and overseas Korean food officials to develop into practical follow-up projects such as the export of local food and food and culture tourism.”
