LA County will operate its ballot processing facilities 24 hours a day for 96 hours immediately following Election Day in November to reduce delays in the LA County election results.
The counting process will be open to the media and the public and broadcast live to maintain transparency.
The LA County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk announced during a multilingual and multicultural media briefing on the 30th that it will operate the ’96-hour sprint,’ running ballot processing facilities around the clock for four days starting from the night of the midterm elections.
The election office plans to conduct ballot verification and counting work without interruption during this period and release election results in real-time.
Michael Sanchez, public information officer for the LA County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, explained, “The ’96-hour sprint’ was designed to address the issue of long processing times caused by a surge of mail-in ballots on election day,” adding, “The goal is to process them as quickly as possible while maintaining accuracy.”
Korean-language election guidance will also be provided for Korean voters. Inquiries regarding voter registration, mail-in ballots, polling places, and other election-related matters can be directed to the LA County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s dedicated Korean phone line at 213-358-2738.
Meanwhile, for this election, LA County will maintain its existing state voter registration and verification procedures instead of the federal government’s ‘SAVE’ identification system. Under this method, once a voter has their citizenship and voting eligibility verified during registration, the election office cross-references the registration information with government records such as the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Social Security Administration (SSA).
