Dyna Robotics, a robotics company based in Redwood City, Northern California, has sparked widespread attention by introducing a new semi-humanoid robot, AI Robot Taku, capable of performing tasks ranging from household laundry to store product stocking.
According to ABC7, Dyna Robotics designed the robot ‘Taku’ to autonomously execute the entire process of a task from start to finish, rather than being limited to isolated motions.
The name Taku is derived from ‘Takumi,’ which means a craftsman or skilled technician in Japanese.
Taku can handle various repetitive duties, such as putting laundry into a washing machine, folding towels, chopping vegetables, and stocking shelves in retail stores.
Unlike robots that remain in laboratory or demonstration stages, Taku was built for practical deployment in real business environments. The company stated that related robotic technology is already in use in hotels, restaurants, and laundromats.
Lyndon Gao, CEO of Dyna Robotics, stated, “For a long time, robots mostly remained entities that showed cool demonstrations on screens. Dyna Robotics is focusing on bringing robots into the real world for commercial use, helping people receive assistance from robots to create genuine value in their daily lives.”
Addressing concerns about robots replacing humans, the company explained, “The goal is to let robots take over repetitive tasks in labor-intensive fields like hotels, dining, and laundry, allowing employees to focus on other responsibilities.”
The company added that it anticipates changes in service industry workforce management, noting that tasks previously requiring significant manpowerβsuch as laundering, meal prep, and product merchandisingβcan now be performed independently by robots.
