U.S. President Donald Trump has awarded the National Medal of Science to key technology industry figures, including SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.
According to Forbes on the 8th, President Trump presented the National Medal of Science to Musk, Huang, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, and AMD CEO Lisa Su during the ‘America’s Golden Age of Innovation’ summit held in Washington, D.C.
Additionally, Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella were awarded the National Technology Innovation Medal.
During the event, President Trump praised Musk as a “modern-day Thomas Edison,” calling him “a titan of industry, an extraordinary engineer, and one of the greatest technology company founders in history.”
This marks the first time that President Trump has directly conferred the National Medal of Science or the National Technology Innovation Medal during his two terms in office.
The awards were presented as part of a summit focused on advancing cutting-edge technologies.
Previously, last month, President Trump and major tech executives signed the ‘White House AGI Agreement,’ which recommends voluntary safety measures such as internal oversight teams and independent audits during AI development.
In addition to Musk and Huang, participants in the agreement included Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and OpenAI President Greg Brockman.
The National Medal of Science is the highest honor bestowed upon scientists and engineers by the government.
