Southwest Airlines has introduced a new service that allows users to search for flights and check booking options directly through Southwest Airlines ChatGPT integration.

On the 9th, Southwest Airlines announced that it partnered with OpenAI and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch the industry’s first dedicated ChatGPT plugin for a domestic airline, with plans to expand its artificial intelligence (AI)-based flight reservation services in phases.

With this new plugin, travelers can search their travel itineraries using ChatGPT and compare dates and seat prices in detail through Southwest Airlines.

However, to complete bookings such as selecting specific seats and making payments, users must still navigate directly to the official Southwest Airlines website.

Lauren Woods, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Southwest Airlines, stated, "We are building a technological foundation that meets our customers’ current needs while preparing for future service expansions," adding, "Our secure and scalable AI infrastructure will allow us to introduce new features more quickly and systematically."

Southwest Airlines plans to combine OpenAI’s AI technology and AWS cloud infrastructure with its customer service experience to build a more intuitive travel planning environment.

Moving forward, the airline intends to gradually introduce AI-powered features to expand customer services ranging from flight searches to the overall travel experience.
