The acclaimed theater company EZ Kiel (CEO Soo-kyung Jeon) is bringing its award-winning production, To Be Liberated play, back to the stage for a special engagement in Los Angeles.
Presented by the Hollywood Fringe Festival award winner, the performance is scheduled for October 18 at 4:00 PM at Tapestry LA Church, located in downtown Los Angeles. Theatergoers can experience this moving historical drama for free, though early reservation is strongly recommended due to limited seating.
Historical Drama of Conflict and Reconciliation
Set against the backdrop of Korea’s liberation on August 15, 1945, the 50-minute play explores the harsh realities of the Japanese colonial period, including mandatory Shinto shrine worship. The narrative centers on two friends who were forced to make vastly different choices under brutal oppression, only to cross paths again and navigate deep-seated emotional wounds, intense conflict, and eventual reconciliation.
Creative Team and Live Musical Performance
Director Soo-kyung Jeon leads the production, bringing emotional depth to life alongside talented actors Kim Soo-yeon and Kim So-jung. Adding a profound layer of dramatic tension to the performance is Joseph Hwang, a student under Professor Kim Dong-suk in the UCLA Ethnomusicology Department, who will perform live gayageum music on stage.
