Group Epik High member Tablo recently shared a surprising story about how he almost debuted as a JYP Entertainment idol.
On October 13, a video titled ‘Tablo Almost Debuted as a JYP Idol’ was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘Tablo’. During the video, Tablo shared anecdotes from his time attending Stanford University.
He recalled that he was active in an underground hip-hop group when he received a phone call from an unknown number. The caller identified themselves as being from JYP, stating they heard his demo and wanted him to visit.
Recalling the atmosphere at the time, Tablo joked, Cheongdam-dong wasn’t like it is today. I went to a shabby office with a very gloomy hallway. With each step I took, I wondered if it was a hidden camera prank or if I was going to die.
Tablo continued, When I told them I was a Stanford student, their eyes lit up and the atmosphere felt like I had already passed. They asked me to sing anything, so I sang a song by Kim Jong-ser. Since they were forming a new boy group, I thought it might be real since it was the agency that created god.
He confessed, I went back to school without giving it much thought, but then I received a passing call. However, I had a lot of things to do, so I turned it down. I think that group might have been Noel, as Noel was the very next boy group to debut, bringing a wave of surprise.
