K-pop band Dragon Pony has returned with a more mature sound, capturing the complex emotions experienced after a breakup.

A New Emotional Spectrum for Dragon Pony

On the 5th at 6 PM KST, Dragon Pony released their new single and music video for ‘Calling back.’ This album compresses the band’s expanding emotional spectrum, drawing past memories and lingering feelings straight into the present moment.

The title track, ‘Calling back,’ tells the story of enduring a separation. Instead of desperately clinging to an irretrievable past, the lyrics focus on recalling shared moments from deep within to navigate the heartache. Moving away from the bright, youthful energy of their previous releases, the band explores the imperfect, vulnerable side of youth facing its first major heartbreak.

Explosive Rock Sound and Heartfelt Vocals

The song begins with Ahn Tae-gyu’s calm, subdued vocals, slowly building into an intense rock sound by the second half. Lines like “If I could just see you one more time, I think it would be okay” highlight the escalating emotional tension. The clear narrative arc and passionate delivery significantly heighten the listener’s immersion.

Near the bridge right before the final chorus, a graceful guitar melody blends seamlessly with an explosive drum beat. Lines such as “Saying goodbye was all a lie / I fooled myself into thinking I’d be fine / But can’t we just love each other, even now?” are delivered with breathtaking vocal power, maximizing the sorrowful mood and sending chills down the spine.

Cinematic Music Video and Upcoming Concerts

The accompanying music video features the members confronting the emotional traces left behind by the passage of time. Set against cold lighting and a desolate field, the wintry atmosphere matches the seasonal chill, visually conveying the emptiness that follows a breakup.

Following the release of ‘Calling back,’ Dragon Pony will hold a solo concert at Blue Square on December 5th and 6th to unveil their new tracks live. They are also scheduled to cap off the year with a powerful performance at ‘Countdown Fantasy’ on December 31st.
