Korean-American residents now have an extended opportunity to voice their opinions on essential public services ahead of the upcoming LA County budget planning cycle.
According to LA County officials, the deadline for the online resident budget survey has been extended through November 15. The survey is accessible with Korean-language support on the official LA County budget survey website (ceo.lacounty.gov/surveys/).
Residents can share their preferences regarding which services should be prioritized, including senior and disabled support, health and mental health, homeless and housing services, public safety and fire, libraries, and consumer and business support. Participants can also indicate which programs require increased or decreased funding, highlight underserved areas or communities, and suggest new services or improvements to existing ones.
The survey is divided into a general county-wide questionnaire and 39 individual department surveys. Residents can complete a single survey of interest or submit feedback across multiple departments, and the process does not require entering any personal information.
This initiative was launched to determine public service priorities amid growing fiscal pressures on the county, driven by reduced federal and state funding, major litigation settlements, and wildfire recovery costs. Joseph Nicchita, Chief Executive Officer of LA County, stated that budgets reflect the values of the county, emphasizing that during difficult times it is crucial to maintain social safety nets and meet the essential needs of local communities.
Each department will consider the submitted feedback when drafting the budget for the 2027β28 fiscal year, which begins on July 1. The budget recommendation will be submitted to the County Board of Supervisors next April.
