Actor Song Kang recently appeared on the tvN variety show ‘You Quiz on the Block,’ where he shared stories about his past, his journey into acting, and receiving idol casting offers.
During the episode, Song Kang talked about his parents’ initial reactions to his acting aspirations. He shared, “My mother told me, ‘What acting? Someone introverted like you should just learn a practical skill.’ On the other hand, my father told me to go for it if it was something I loved.”
Encouraged by his father, Song Kang enrolled in an acting academy. Despite feeling shy and awkward performing in front of others at first, he realized he didn’t want to give up. He eventually majored in Film and Arts at Konkuk University.
Notably, Song Kang revealed that he received offers to become an idol back then. Host Yoo Jae-suk heavily praised his visuals, calling him an “idol center visual.” However, Song Kang turned down the offers, explaining, “I can’t sing or dance.” He even showed his lovable, human side by briefly displaying his awkward singing and dancing skills during fan meetings.
Looking back at his career, Song Kang reflected on landing his breakthrough role in ‘Love Alarm’ with a 900-to-1 competition rate in his third year since debut. He also shared proud moments after achieving success with the ‘Sweet Home’ series, mentioning that he bought a car and provided allowance for his parents to show his filial piety.
