AHL Foundation Contemporary Art Award β€” Winners Exhibition Opens Oct 31

AHL Foundation Contemporary Art Award

The non-profit Korean American arts support organization, the AHL Foundation, will host the AHL Foundation Contemporary Art Award exhibition starting on the 31st at the AHL Foundation Gallery located at 2605 Frederick Douglass Boulevard.

Curated by Sarah Sunjin Han, the upcoming exhibition will showcase the works of this year’s contemporary art award winners: Jieun Hur, Jaewook Lee, and Sangwoo Yoo.

Spanning diverse mediums such as sculpture, video, photography, installation, and new media, the exhibition introduces the broad possibilities of contemporary art and the unique artistic explorations of the featured artists. Through different mediums and approaches, the three artists explore the relationships between image and technology, human experience, material, and memory, demonstrating how contemporary art reshapes the ways we perceive and experience the world today.

Lee Sook-nyu, President of the AHL Foundation, stated, “We are thrilled to open this exhibition with three exceptional artists selected through a rigorous review process among many talented applicants. We hope this exhibition will expand the artistic journeys of the winning artists and widely introduce the diverse artistic practices and voices of Korean American artists in the American art scene.”

Established alongside the founding of the AHL Foundation in 2003, the Contemporary Art Award is one of the key programs providing opportunities for Korean American artists active in the United States to present their works and achieve professional growth. Since 2016, the program has been operated with the sponsorship of the T&W Foundation, established by mid-career painter and cultural patron Wonsook Kim and Thomas Clement.
