Connecting the Continents: Air Premia Sees 454% Jump in Layover Travelers
The volume of Air Premia transfer passengers skyrocketed in the first half of 2026, proving that budget-conscious long-haul travelers are increasingly choosing South Korea’s hybrid carrier as their gateway across the Pacific.
According to data from the Aviation Information Portal, Air Premia welcomed 691,768 international passengers during the first six months of the year. Among them, transfer passengers reached 39,110—a staggering 454.2% leap compared to the 7,057 transit passengers recorded during the same period last year.
Transit travelers now account for 5.6% of Air Premia’s total international traffic, putting the carrier in third place among South Korean airlines for transit ratio.

What is driving the massive influx of connecting traffic? Much of it comes down to Air Premia’s clever routing between North America and Southeast or East Asia. In fact, 38.7% of all transiting travelers (15,125 passengers) completed their layovers using Air Premia’s proprietary network alone.
The airline hit a milestone in March 2026 when monthly connection volume topped 10,000 passengers for the first time. Since then, the momentum hasn’t stopped, maintaining over 7,000 transit travelers every single month.
