The hit political drama and thriller Assassins 3 million audience milestone has officially been surpassed, cementing the film as one of 2026’s top box office hits in South Korea.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 12th, ‘Assassins(s)’ (directed by Heo Jin-ho, produced and distributed by Hive Media Corp) surpassed a cumulative total of 3 million moviegoers on the morning of its 20th day since release.
Released on the 23rd of last month, ‘Assassins(s)’ maintained its grip at the top of the overall box office for the first 15 consecutive days. In doing so, it achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the fifth Korean film released in 2026 to cross the 3 million viewer mark within 20 days of release.
Box Office Dominance and Rising Ticket Sales
During its third week from October 5th (Monday) to October 11th (Sunday), the film mobilized 758,587 moviegoers over the span of a single week, securing the number one spot on the overall weekly box office chart for three consecutive weeks. As a result, ‘Assassins(s)’ has demonstrated its strong presence as a box office powerhouse without losing the top weekly spot even once since its premiere.
Notably, the third-week audience count increased by approximately 90,000 compared to the second week’s 667,698 admissions, proving an even stronger box office momentum as time goes on.
Word of Mouth and Real-Time Rating Reversal
Real-time audience ratings have also shown an eye-catching upward reversal. Naver’s actual viewer rating climbed from 8.0 to 8.8, while the CGV Golden Egg Index has similarly trended upward, proving overwhelmingly positive reactions from audiences.
Because the film recorded an upward reversal in viewer evaluations even into its third week, expectations are rising for its continued box office momentum driven by strong word of mouth and favorable reviews.
Meanwhile, the movie ‘Assassins(s)’ tells the gripping story of tracking the suspicions and hidden forces behind the assassination of the First Lady, which shook the Republic of Korea on August 15, 1974.
