Music critic Im Jin-mo recently shared his deep pride in the phenomenal rise of K-pop, highlighting BTS Grammy Boycott and their unprecedented achievements on the global stage during his appearance on tvN’s variety show ‘You Quiz on the Block.’
Reflecting on the early days of BTS entering the Billboard charts, Im recalled the sheer disbelief he felt alongside his peers, describing the moment as an absolute revolution for K-pop. He emphasized that BTS has forged a monumental cultural milestone, noting that even Nobel Prize laureate Bob Dylan never topped the Billboard Hot 100, whereas BTS has claimed the top spot numerous times, including their solo tracks.
Addressing the group’s decision to boycott the Grammy Awards, Im expressed strong support, criticizing the institution for categorizing their work merely as Asian pop and creating a form of musical ghettoization. He asserted that music should be evaluated purely on artistic merit rather than racial backgrounds, declaring that the boycott was a thrilling and liberating moment that truly signifies an independence from the American music industry.
