BTS RM SFMOMA exhibition has officially been announced, marking the BTS leader’s first-ever public showcase of his personal art collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Inside the ‘RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me’ Special Exhibition
Running from October 3 through February 7, 2027, the special exhibition titled ‘RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me’ serves as a deeply personal milestone for the global music icon. RM shared through his agency that curating this collection felt like sharing a ‘pretty long self-introduction,’ emphasizing that a personal collection gathered over many years offers an honest reflection of its owner.
The upcoming exhibition highlights numerous modern and contemporary Korean artworks, many of which are being introduced to American audiences for the very first time. A total of approximately 180 artworks will be featured, including about 140 pieces from RM’s personal collection alongside signature works from SFMOMA by renowned artists like Mark Rothko, Whanki Kim, Soungwoo Chun, and Raehyun Park.
A K-Pop Icon’s Hands-On Curation and Global Art Collaboration
Demonstrating his deep passion for the arts, RM took a remarkably hands-on approach to the exhibition planning and curation process. Collaborating closely with museum curators, he helped select the artworks, contributed to writing the bilingual exhibition texts in both Korean and English, recorded dual-language audio guides, and even personally selected the background music for the galleries.
Christopher Bedford, the director of SFMOMA who initiated this historic collaboration with a K-pop artist for the first time since the museum’s founding, noted that the project aligns seamlessly with the institution’s mission to expand global conversations surrounding art while welcoming new audiences to explore contemporary and South Korean art.
