A student at California State University, Fullerton was seriously injured after being struck by an electric scooter on campus.
According to the CSU Fullerton Police Department, the accident occurred on the 25th when an e-scooter and a pedestrian collided within the campus grounds.
The student involved sustained severe injuries and was transported to a nearby medical facility. The student’s specific condition was not immediately disclosed.
Police stated that the accident occurred in a campus ‘pedestrian-only zone.’ This area experiences heavy foot traffic, and the use of personal mobility devices such as scooters, bicycles, and skateboards is restricted.
In a video released after the accident, CSU Fullerton Police Department Sergeant Chris Brown stated, ‘Campus guidelines prohibit the use of mobility devices in pedestrian-only zones.’
University police explained that it is common to witness individuals riding scooters, bicycles, or skateboards through designated zones and coming dangerously close to pedestrians.
Individuals entering pedestrian-only zones must dismount and walk or push their devices.
Sgt. Brown urged everyone to obey traffic laws and campus regulations, and to exercise caution for each other’s safety.
Police have not released information regarding the scooter operator or whether any citations were issued. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
