Actor Choi Duk-moon is capturing viewers’ attention and serving as a major vitality booster in the drama Doctor X with his shockingly unique Afro hairstyle and standout performance.

In the SBS Friday-Saturday drama Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia, Choi Duk-moon plays Yang Eung-gu, a North Korean defector traditional Chinese medicine doctor with legendary hands once known as the grim reaper. He is affiliated with the Jang So-jang medical service agency and delivers a powerful scene-stealing presence.

Unlike his terrifying past, Yang Eung-gu is portrayed as a cheerful freelance board game enthusiast who brightens the atmosphere around him. Choi Duk-moon has completed a truly unique character by combining an afro-reminiscent perm, witty nonchalance, eccentric ideas, and fluent North Korean dialect.

His comedic presence exploded particularly during the broadcast on the 17th. He showed a trendy side by smoothly rattling off South Korean slang terms such as ‘beon-tta’, ‘beo-ka-chung’, and ‘hal-mal-ha-anh’. Delivering a witty jab with his characteristic confident expression, he quipped, “South Koreans, you need to step it up!”, bringing huge laughs to the small screen.

He further added vibrant energy to the plot by unexpectedly entering a pinkish ‘fluttering mode’ all by himself while watching the tense operating room episode featuring Gye Soo-jeong and Na Dae-il.

Through his seasoned acting chops, effortlessly pulling off extraordinary words and actions, Choi Duk-moon brings a breath of fresh air to the potentially heavy medical noir genre. Critics note that his signature chemistry and immersive presence with any character allow him to execute his role as a scene-stealer at 200% capacity.
