During the opening match of the 2026 LoL World Championship Swiss stage, Chovy (Jeong Ji-hun) and Gen.G secured a dominant 26-minute victory against IG with a kill score of 21-10. Despite a shaky early game in the bot-lane skirmishes, Chovy maintained his composure and led his team to a solid 1-0 start.

Speaking in the post-match stage interview, Chovy shared his mindset during the intense opening moments. Although falling slightly behind in the early skirmishes, he noted that the opposing team lacked reliable control tools for his Akali pick, allowing him to stay confident as long as his farm and experience continued to grow.

The match also marked a much-anticipated mid-lane reunion against veteran mid laner Rookie. Chovy explained that because Rookie excels at aggressive trading and wearing down opponents, the key strategy was to safely navigate the early phase. This disciplined preparation paid off, enabling Akali to fulfill her role effectively throughout the game.

As a reigning LCK champion and one of the tournament’s top favorites, Chovy addressed the lingering scrutiny regarding past international setbacks. Deeply reflecting on previous World Championship eliminations, he noted that analyzing the root causes of his past performance and psychological pressure has given him a renewed mental fortitude to overcome any obstacles this year.
