A Cornell sexual assault lawsuit involving an alleged gang rape from two years ago is sparking renewed controversy following a recently filed civil suit.
The names, photos, and other personal information of seven male students accused of sexual assault, including Korean-American Winston Lee, are rapidly spreading across social media, while a dedicated website has also emerged to publicize their identities.
According to the Cornell student newspaper ‘The Cornell Daily Sun’, a former Cornell female student, referred to as A, filed a damage suit on the 14th against Cornell University, the male fraternity ‘Chi Phi’, and seven students belonging to the club.
An uproar has erupted online immediately following the filing. Toby Morton, a former writer for the hit animated series ‘South Park’, launched a dedicated website (TheCornell7.org) featuring the real names of the seven individuals. Their real names, photos, and profiles are also being shared across online communities and social media.
The incident occurred on October 19, 2024, at the Cornell Chi Phi fraternity house. The victim, who was 20 years old at the time, claimed that while she was intoxicated and losing consciousness, she was forcibly administered the psychotropic drug ketamine and subjected to serial sexual assault.
Cornell University’s lenient punishment and lukewarm response have also come under fire. According to the complaint, the perpetrators were given a temporary suspension a month later in November, but it was revealed that they were given an opportunity by the school to have their disciplinary level mitigated by submitting an essay.
The female victim, who suffered from trauma following the incident, reportedly ended up dropping out of Cornell University. Some of the accused students, including Lee, still maintain their status as enrolled students at Cornell.
