Singer-songwriter and actor Eric Nam has returned with his fourth full-length album after three years, offering deep and honest confessions about love, parting, and loneliness.
Eric Nam released his fourth studio album, ‘Confessions of a Lonely Heart’, across various online music streaming sites on the 16th. Comprising a total of nine tracks, the album captures various emotions and fragments of relationships experienced over the past few years.
Recently signing an exclusive contract with All My Manic Dots and signaling active domestic and global promotions, Eric Nam shared candid stories about his new album, his recent daily life, and future plans through a Q&A session.
Q&A with Eric Nam on His 3-Year Return
Reflecting on his new release, Eric Nam shared, "It’s a very personal album, so I was excited and nervous. The nine tracks contain fragments of time I’ve kept to myself for a long time. It feels like letting someone read my diary, but I’m grateful to finally share them with the world. I hope songs born from my personal emotions become meaningful presences in someone else’s life."
Addressing changes during the preparation period and clearing up recent misunderstandings, he added, "Over the past few years, touring and participating in film and TV projects allowed me to experience different countries and creative environments. These experiences helped me grow and better understand what keeps me grounded. Accepting naturally that one can feel loneliness, stress, or uncertainty while living a grateful life made me much more at ease."
"And there’s one thing I want to correct. I talked about my past panic attack experience on YouTube, but some articles reported it as if I suffer from panic disorder. That wasn’t what I meant, and I am doing very well right now. While speaking honestly about mental health is important, losing the context of a conversation can make others hesitant to be open, so I hope it is handled more carefully in the future."
Meaning and Message Behind ‘Confessions of a Lonely Heart’
Discussing the album’s title and core message, he explained, "Even in a world where we easily connect, we still experience immense loneliness. I captured ‘confessions’βwords kept hidden in the heart, like missing someone or being afraid of getting hurt. I wanted to talk about finding freedom and understanding oneself amidst loneliness, ultimately delivering the hope that ‘we are not alone.’"
He noted that the tracks were born during quiet moments alone in airplanes or hotel rooms, reflecting genuine feelings experienced in romantic, friendly, and working relationships. Compared to his previous work ‘House on a Hill’, which questioned happiness and success, this album delves into much more intimate and quiet moments, exploring who he misses and whether he is ready to open his heart musically through 80s styles and country sounds.
Title Track ‘Psycho’ and Future Global Plans
Highlighting the title track ‘Psycho’, Eric Nam described it as a song about being so consumed by someone that affection turns into obsession, making one act out of character. Inspired by 80s pop, the energetic track blends longing, intensity, and wit, serving as an homage to classic films expressing the slightly ‘crazy things’ people do for love.
Looking ahead at his global career, Eric Nam expressed excitement for acting and broadcasting as new challenges alongside music, pointing to upcoming projects like the Paramount and Hive America-produced film ‘K-POP: The Debut’ and independent movie releases alongside veteran actors. He also aims to embark on a world tour in 2027 to connect directly with global audiences and spend more time with fans in South Korea through his new agency.
"I hope someone finds a song in this album that expresses feelings they struggled to put into words," he concluded, offering a warm message to his fans. "Whether it becomes a song that keeps you company on lonely nights, helps overcome the pain of parting, or delivers hope that you can fall in love again, I hope these tracks serve as companions just as they did in my own life."
