EXO Kai inspired a historic victory at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games as Hong Kong wushu athlete Shum Siu-yu claimed the gold medal and fulfilled a heartwarming promise. Competing in the women’s changquan final on September 21, Shum scored 9.713 points to secure the top spot, marking Hong Kong’s first gold medal of the tournament and their first wushu gold since the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.

Immediately after her victory, Shum took to Instagram to tag EXO and Kai, joyfully announcing, “I kept my promise!” She shared a nostalgic video clip from a past EXO fan sign event where Kai asked her, “(If you do this pose), can you win a gold medal?” Shum had replied that she would do her best, prompting Kai to smile and show her the pose.

A 13-Year Fan Dedication

The video then transitioned to Shum wearing her gold medal on the podium with the caption, “I really won an Asian Games gold medal!” She added, “I worked hard to keep this promise. Thank you, see you at the encore concert from November 6 to 8.”

Shum’s deep fandom was evident even during her championship performance, as the back of her wushu uniform featured the EXO logo. According to the Hong Kong newspaper Sing Tao Daily, she explained, “I usually really like EXO. When I heard my sister used a hexagon as a design element, I personally added the EXO logo.” In July, she posted photos with the EXO members, introducing herself as a 13-year fan and stating that becoming a professional athlete was driven by watching EXO light up the stage when she was young, thanking them for motivating her continuous growth.
