Galaxy Corporation, the agency representing K-pop icon G-Dragon, issued a formal apology on Monday following intense backlash regarding the singer’s recent stage attire. During a concert in Macau this past Saturday, G-Dragon appeared onstage wearing a T-shirt featuring the Dutch phrase “RONNY, EEN GEILE NEGER– JONGEN.” The text, which translates to a highly offensive and sexually suggestive remark targeting Black individuals, immediately sparked outrage among international fans and human rights advocates. Critics pointed out that the term “neger” is a derogatory racial slur, and its use in a public performance highlighted a significant lapse in cultural sensitivity and professional vetting.
In response to the mounting criticism across social media platforms, Galaxy Corporation expressed deep regret, stating they sincerely apologize for the inclusion of language that is inappropriate within its global social and cultural context. The agency admitted that the controversy has underscored a critical need for greater cultural awareness and more rigorous internal review processes. Moving forward, the company has pledged to overhaul its styling and production standards to prevent similar incidents, emphasizing their commitment to operating under more responsible and carefully vetted standards for their artists’ public appearances.
