Gen.G head coach Ryu Sang-wook emphasized the critical importance of analyzing rapidly changing meta trends rather than settling for early success, following the team’s strong start with back-to-back victories in the Swiss stage of the Gen.G LoL Worlds.

Transitioning into a coaching role after three years with FearX and stepping onto the global Worlds stage for the first time in his career, Ryu expressed a unique mix of tension and excitement compared to his days as a pro player.

Reflecting on the team’s current form, Ryu noted that the players’ overall form is excellent, though he pointed out a tendency to occasionally miss minute details during matches. He intends to focus heavily on addressing these gaps to remain vigilant for upcoming games, including their recent LCK internal victory over Hanwha Life Esports.

Discussing Gen.G’s core competitive edge in drafting, Ryu highlighted a collaborative philosophy where the coaching staff and players—totaling seven to eight members—freely share their thoughts and concerns to streamline the drafting process.

Maintaining an unwavering gaze toward the ultimate prize, Ryu reaffirmed that the team’s sole objective since the beginning of the season has been winning the World Championship.

He defined his vision of an ideal team as one where members openly share game-related ideas, drafting perspectives, complaints, and strengths to create synergy in a lively environment.

Concluding the interview, Ryu expressed heartfelt gratitude to the fans who continued to support them through tough times and to the players who diligently managed their schedules despite jet lag upon arrival.
