A tragic Georgia roller coaster accident occurred on the 12th at an amusement park near Atlanta, leaving one person dead and four others injured, according to local media outlet WSB TV.
According to the Cobb County Police Department, the incident took place around 4 p.m. on the ‘Goliath’ roller coaster located at the ‘Six Flags Over Georgia’ amusement park, resulting in at least one fatality and four injuries.
While a felony investigative team has launched a probe into the incident, police have not yet released specific details regarding the causes of death and injuries.
Regarding the accident, WSB TV reported that the Goliath came to a halt in mid-air, and numerous park visitors were seen evacuating the ride on foot.
Goliath is a signature roller coaster at Six Flags, built with a construction cost of $20 million, and marked its 20th year of operation this year. Shortly after its opening in 2006, a 45-year-old man suffered a fatal heart attack while riding the same roller coaster.
Six Flags, which operates amusement parks across 34 locations throughout the United States, has recently faced controversies following a series of accidents on its roller coasters.
Back in August, two female passengers experienced brain hemorrhages and underwent emergency surgeries just a week apart after riding the ‘X2’ roller coaster at ‘Six Flags Magic Mountain’ in California. CNN reported that over the past two decades, ‘X2’ has been linked to about 10 cases of severe injuries and hospitalizations, resulting in two fatalities.
