Biotech company Vinotech announced that it has received a patent registration decision from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its oral curcumin raw material, Hydrocumin (™).
Hydrocumin was developed to improve the low water solubility and poor bioavailability of curcumin, the key active compound in turmeric. Vinotech applied its oral delivery platform, Absosome (™), to encapsulate curcumin within a delivery carrier and modify the surface of the nanoparticles.
According to a randomized, double-blind human clinical trial conducted on 20 healthy adult males at Jeonbuk National University Hospital, the peak blood concentration (Cmax) of the group consuming 400mg of Hydrocumin was 60 times higher than that of the group consuming 2000mg of standard curcumin. Additionally, the area under the blood concentration-time curve (AUC) was 23 times higher, and absorption rate-related indicators were 3.83 times higher. However, results may vary depending on formulation, dosage, and subjects. The research findings were published in the international academic journal Scientific Reports.
The company stated that it secured US and European patents for the Absosome technology in 2025. Following its domestic patent registration in 2023, Hydrocumin proceeded with US and European filings through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT/KR2022/014386). With this latest decision, the company is set to secure US patent protection not only for its delivery platform but also for its applied material.
Vinotech holds various proprietary platforms, including the skin delivery carrier ‘Hydroethosomes,’ the oral delivery carrier ‘Absosome,’ and the fermentation platform ‘Absobiome.’ Furthermore, in July, the company completed a GMP manufacturing facility in Gyeongsan, Gyeongsangbuk-do, representing an investment of approximately 25 billion KRW. Vinotech plans to materialize its global raw material supply expansion and commercialization through upcoming commercial supply contracts, product applications, and follow-up research.
