According to the Georgia State Patrol and Dougherty Police, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. on September 17 near Liberty Expressway and Moultrie Road. ICE agents had stopped a van carrying three suspected undocumented immigrants, who all fled on foot toward nearby woods. Authorities stated that the van driver ran along the median, and an ICE patrol car following the pursuit accidentally struck and pinned the fleeing man when he fell. However, the injured man’s family identified him as Edgar Cabrera Gomez to local broadcaster WALB, disputing the official narrative by claiming he was not the van driver and was actually struck by the ICE vehicle while running.
