Major ICE Immigration Raid in Indiana
The ICE immigration raid conducted across Indiana has resulted in the apprehension of 426 individuals over a five-day period, according to federal authorities. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported that the operation, officially designated as ‘Operation Safe Community-Indiana,’ took place from August 30 to September 3, targeting immigration violators statewide.
Criminal Records and Scope of the Operation
ICE stated that those arrested in the sweep included undocumented offenders with prior criminal records involving sexual offenses, assault, domestic violence, drug trafficking, weapons offenses, fraud, identity theft, theft, property damage, DUI, and public order violations. The sweep primarily focused on Indianapolis and its surrounding suburbs while also conducting selective enforcement across the state. Officials noted that Indiana falls under the jurisdiction of the ICE Chicago field office and that this mission followed similar recent operations in the Atlanta and Washington, D.C. areas, as reported by Reuters.
