IU Donates $67,600 for Children’s Day Amid K-Drama Success

K-pop icon and actress IU has once again demonstrated her commitment to philanthropy, donating 100 million won ($67,600) to children’s welfare organizations in celebration of South Korea’s Children’s Day. According to her agency, EDAM Entertainment, the generous contribution was made under the moniker “IUaena,” a meaningful portmanteau blending her stage name with her official fandom, Uaena, to share the honor with her global supporters.

The total fund was split equally between two major non-profits: the Korea National Association of Child Welfare and the Korea Association of the Community Child Center. Each organization received 50 million won, which will be utilized to provide essential medical care, fund cultural enrichment programs, and host birthday celebrations for underprivileged and marginalized youth. This act of giving continues IU’s long-standing tradition of marking significant holidays and career milestones with impactful charitable contributions.

A Legacy of Philanthropy and Global Stardom

IU’s philanthropic efforts extend far beyond this holiday. In December 2025, she closed out the year by donating 200 million won to charities supporting single mothers, individuals with disabilities, and senior citizens. Earlier that same year, she stepped forward with another 200 million won to support emergency response teams and firefighters battling devastating wildfires in the Gyeongsang region, cementing her reputation as one of the entertainment industry’s most prominent celebrity donors.

Chaining Success with “Perfect Crown”

While maintaining her extensive humanitarian work, the multi-hyphenate star is also dominating domestic TV ratings. IU is currently starring in MBC’s hit historical romance K-drama “Perfect Crown.” She portrays Seong Hee-ju, a wealthy commoner navigating the complexities of royal life after marrying Prince I-an, played by rising top actor Byeon Woo-seok. The series has generated significant international buzz and critical acclaim, further elevating IU’s dual influence as both a powerhouse musician and a leading actress on the global stage.
