Group IVE has proven their immense global popularity with their new track ‘Looks Can Kill’.
According to their agency Starship Entertainment, the music video for ‘Looks Can Kill’, the title track pre-released by IVE on the 19th, shot straight to No. 1 on the YouTube Music Video Trending Worldwide chart immediately after its release. It claimed the top spot in 6 countries and regions including South Korea, Japan, the UK, France, Canada, and Brazil, while entering the Top 10 in 18 countries including the US, Germany, and Australia. As of 9 AM on the 20th, it has landed on chart lists across 34 countries and regions worldwide, demonstrating massive global interest.
Borrowing cinematic grammar from hero films, the music video boasts sensory visual aesthetics through a composition that moves fluidly inside and outside the filming set, along with dazzling visual effects. In particular, the concept of the new album was clearly realized by expanding the meaning from ‘IVE playing heroes’ to ‘IVE being heroes themselves’.
The electronic dance-pop track ‘Looks Can Kill’ expresses IVE’s unique confidence and agency, blending synth-pad rhythms, heavy bass, and dynamic drums. The final chorus, which explodes passionately after the bridge, delivers an overwhelming sense of immersion.
The mini-album of the same name, officially dropping on the 26th, puts forward ‘Girl Hero’ as a new ego following Cupid and magical girls. Through this spin-off project, IVE is expected to further diversify the narrative of ‘self-confidence’ they have consistently sung about since their debut.
