OSEN DB.Jeon Soyeon Addresses Plagiarism Suspicions
Jeon Soyeon of the South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE recently opened up about the heartfelt inspiration behind her solo track Resignation. Appearing on the KBS2 music program hosted by Sung Si-kyung, she discussed her first solo album release in over five years and shared the real story of how her song came to life.
The Inspiration Behind Resignation
The new track captures the raw feelings and modern struggles of office workers in South Korea. Listeners immediately noticed a distinct vibe and vocal delivery reminiscent of the classic 2000s band EX and their hit song Please Look After Well. Jeon Soyeon explained that she aimed to pay homage to the unique Korean band music sensibilities and distinctive tone of the late 2000s and early 2010s era.
Direct Contact With EX Lee Sang-mi
Rather than quietly borrowing the style, Jeon Soyeon revealed that she personally reached out to EX member Lee Sang-mi beforehand to explain her musical intentions. According to the broadcast reports from OSEN, Lee warmly welcomed the homage and even surprised her with a birthday cake. Sung Si-kyung praised the thoughtful gesture, highlighting how meaningful it is for senior artists to see their legacy embraced by the next generation.
