Miracle Treatment Through K-Medical Excellence
Thanks to world-class K-Medical innovation, a 7-year-old boy from Eswatini named Tando has received life-changing surgery at Severance Hospital in South Korea to remove a massive facial mass.
Born with a rare congenital condition known as venous malformationโwhich occurs in roughly 1 out of every 10,000 newbornsโTando suffered from a growing lesion that eventually covered his entire lower jaw and neck. The condition made it difficult for him to breathe and speak, forcing him to drop out of school and isolating him from other children.
Global Charity and Successful Procedure
Tando’s plight reached Severance Hospital through Yonsei University College of Medicine alumni active overseas. He was selected for the Global Severance, Global Charity program, which fully funded his $68,000 USD ($90,000,000 KRW) medical expenses.
Led by Professor Kim Da-hee, the surgical team successfully removed 95% of the head-sized lesion (measuring 15 cm by 10 cm) while preserving his swallowing and speaking functions. To prevent recurrence, Tando will continue receiving medical care and regular check-ups in Eswatini, coordinated with hospitals in South Africa.
A Bright Future Ahead
Having regained his health and voice, Tando shared a new dream with his medical team. He expressed his desire to become a great doctor just like the physicians who healed him.
