Actor Kim Woo-seok is capturing the hearts of viewers and driving the box office success of the hit SBS drama ‘Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia’ (hereinafter ‘Doctor X’) through his portrayal of Park Tae-kyung, a character equipped with diverse charms and steadfast convictions.
Kim Woo-seok Shines as the ‘Sunshine Intern’
In the popular series, Kim Woo-seok delivers a passionate performance as Park Tae-kyung, a rookie intern at Guseo University Hospital. He exudes ‘sunshine intern’ charms through his sincere approach to patients and reliable support for his senior doctors.
His strong performance is backed by tangible numbers. He claimed the No. 1 spot for two consecutive weeks in the drama search issue keyword rankings announced by GoodData Corporation FUNdex. The drama itself recorded 18.5% nationwide and 18.4% in the metropolitan area based on Nielsen Korea for its 4th episode, breaking its own highest viewership ratings and continuing an unstoppable upward trend.
Adding Depth and Conviction to the Character
Kim Woo-seok goes beyond a simply bright and youthful rookie doctor, injecting dimensionality into his role by showcasing clear convictions and strong principles. Despite instructions from upper management to monitor Gye Soo-jung (played by Kim Ji-won), he recognized her genuine sincerity toward patients first and stepped up as her supporter, perfectly displaying Park Tae-kyung’s upright nature.
In particular, Kim Woo-seok maximizes the drama’s entertainment value by building a delightful yet profound chemistry with his counterpart, Kim Ji-won. His bold actions of moving forward with unyielding conviction even in unpredictable crisis situations, combined with delicate gaze acting and precise dialogue pacing, clearly complete the solid yet warm identity of Park Tae-kyung.
Demonstrating a balanced portrayal of rookie freshness, a sense of responsibility as a doctor, and the firmness to uphold his beliefs, attention is focused on what kind of performances Kim Woo-seok will continue to deliver in future episodes of ‘Doctor X’.
