The hit music variety show King of Mask Singer is making its long-awaited return after a brief hiatus.
MBC’s King of Mask Singer announced on the 13th through social media that it is recruiting non-celebrity judging panels and kicking off a brand new season.
The production team announced the comeback, stating, "The pioneer of global music entertainment, King of Mask Singer, which opened new horizons for Korean music variety shows and expanded to 53 countries worldwide, is returning stronger than ever."
According to the announcement, the new season is titled ‘King of Mask Singer: Golden Mask’ and will embark on a journey to find the owner of the golden mask. The program is expected to feature an overwhelming scale, a more glamorous lineup, and more powerful performances.
First airing in April 2015, MBC’s King of Mask Singer has established itself as one of the network’s representative long-running weekend entertainment shows for 10 years. It is a mystery music show where participants conceal their age, gender, and occupation, casting aside all prejudices to compete purely with their voices. It is also the first K-entertainment content format to be exported to over 50 countries globally, continuing its popularity with season-based broadcasts worldwide.
After receiving immense love, King of Mask Singer entered a temporary hiatus following the recording sessions broadcasted in December of last year. Wrapping up its run with episode 525 on January 4, the production team stated, "Through upgrades tailored to global trends, we plan to greet viewers again with a fresh new look in the second half of next year."
Attention is focused on whether King of Mask Singer, returning after about 9 months, will once again open new horizons in the music variety show industry.
